Obituary for Linda L. Black

It is with much sadness that this is written. Our Mom, Linda Lee Byrne-Black passed away Friday, June 17, 2022. Mom suffered a worsening decline from Alzheimers symptoms for several years until it took its toll. The last few weeks were really very difficult. She was 83 years old.

Linda was born January 17, 1939 to Mary Elizabeth Lee Tetrault (who went by Marie) and George Tetrault. She was lucky enough to have Laurel Tetrault Rocco and Robert Tetrault as siblings. Linda attended Kings Park Central High School and married Andrew James Byrne, Sr (deceased) on March 3, 1957 at St. Joseph's RC Church. Together they had 4 children- Janice Dougherty, Jill Kelly, Andrew Byrne Jr., Christopher Byrne.
They were married for 42 years!

Mom was always working while raising a family. Most of the work Linda did was in healthcare field and a lot of it was on night shift. She worked as a nurse aide at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY and St. John's Episcopal Hospital (now known as St. Catherine of Sienna). That was followed up with being a patient registrar at Mather Memorial Hospital also in Port Jefferson, NY for many years.

Later on, Andy and Linda moved to Florida and Mom totally enjoyed being there. Again, Mom worked as a patient registrar, but at South Seminole Hospital. I know she did enjoy her work and the people she met there and all her jobs.

One thing that always amazed me was the way Mom and her group of Kings Park friends, many of whom were from kindergarten I believe, had stayed in touch and on occasion gotten together. I do vividly remember driving Mom to her 20th class reunion to celebrate.

Sometime after Mom was widowed, she had been visiting at Jill's house when Jill "allowed" Harold, a former high school acquaintance, to take Linda out on a first date! Well then.... they were married on July 9, 2004 and had almost 18 happy loving years together. They traveled a good bit of the world. It was always amazing to see where they went. They were also snowbirds. Harold maintains his house in Kings Park and they have a home in Florida. Abby, their dog, was their constant companion and was a source of much happiness for her.

We will all miss Mom so much. She was "the BEST MOM" we could have ever imagined having. Besides
our day-to-day needs, she gave us many "life lessons" that are far too numerous to list. Anyone who
has known Linda would know her for her kindness, compassion and gentle ways. She was truly always
a friend to all!

Linda is survived by Harold Black, husband, and his family; Janice Byrne Dougherty (Brian);
Jill Byrne Kelly (Kevin); Andrew Byrne, Jr; Christopher Byrne (Charlotte); Robert Tetrault (Karen);
Laurel Rocco. Linda was a very loved grandmother, known as "Gree" to 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Heaven surely did get another ANGEL who will be missed by all!
