Obituary for Irene Clark

Irene Clark, a lifelong Kings Park resident, passed away on January 25, 2022, at
the age of 98. She will be terribly missed by her loving family, including her
children, Linda Clark Marshall and husband Dennis Marshall of Huntington, NY,
and her son, David R. Clark of Port Charlotte, FL. She was especially adored by her
grandchildren: David S. Clark and wife Margaret, Robert Clark, Christopher
Marshall and wife Diana, Jennifer Marshall-Baranowski and husband David
Baranowski, Blair Bohnhorst and husband Bernard, and Courtney Clark. Her great
grandchildren were especially blessed to have known their Great Nanny and they
include Brittany Clark, Alexa and Andrew Marshall, Vincent Baranowski, and
Isabella Bohnhorst. Irene (known to her family as Ma or Nan) was a woman of
quiet strength who came into the world on October 6, 1923, as the daughter of Irene Kelly Ten Eyck
and Raymond Ten Eyck in a house on Church Street in Kings Park. She was a
princess of Kings Park royalty (if there were such a thing) as the granddaughter of
Judge John F. Kelly, who was extremely influential in the development of the
town. By age two, she survived a couple of serious bouts of pneumonia and
subsequently just kept facing whatever challenges life threw her way. Irene
graduated from Kings Park Central High School in 1941, and she and her friends
came of age right at the point of U.S. entrance into World War II. She lost her
mother suddenly at the tender age of 16, and was also predeceased by her
husband, David S. Clark, when she was only 41. She was a devoted mother and
grandmother and had a way of making each of her grandchildren feel like they
were the most important. She never missed a birthday, graduation, school play, concert,
or family gathering. Additionally, Irene was a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend,
and loyalty was one of her greatest attributes. She served as a babysitter to many families that
came to know and love her. In her later years, she outlived all her contemporaries and
became a wise matriarch for her family. She possessed a lifelong love of music
and had a sweet and melodious voice. Singing became an important hobby for
her, particularly in recent years. She will never be forgotten and our memories of her will be
forever cherished. We know that she will continue to watch over us all who loved her so much. We
hope she is having a beer and singing the old songs with all her loved ones right now.
