Obituary for Jean Heaphy

Jean Heaphy “Grandma Jean” (Age 94)
Jean Elizabeth Heaphy (neé Kearn) passed away on July 26, 2021.
Jean was born in Great Neck, NY in 1926, and graduated from Great
Neck High School in 1945. Jean had fond memories working in New
York City in various secretarial roles and would always speak of how
much she loved the city and its energy and spirit. Jean met her
beloved husband John “Jack” while working together in Great Neck.
Jean and Jack made the move to Kings Park, NY as their family
expanded in 1962.
Jean was a stay-at-home mother until her children were in school
and then took a job at Kings Park Psychiatric Center. She was a
faithful employee until her retirement.
Jean was her family’s matriarch and loved nothing more than to have
a meal or celebrate a holiday together with her loved ones,
particularly after spending a long day at one of Long Island’s many
beautiful beaches. Her love for her grandchildren was especially
prominent and she ensured she never missed a play, sporting event,
or recital featuring them. She was devoted to each of them
individually and collectively and devoted much of her time to uplifting
all that they do. Jean’s greatest accomplishment is her dedicated and
close-knit family.
Jean was a compassionate, funny, and music loving woman who
always had an album playing throughout her home. Her love for
music was only matched by her love of crossword puzzles, the PBS
channel, and an occasional Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar with
Almonds.
Jean is survived by her three children Sally (Chip) of Islip, NY, Sean of
Kings Park, NY, and Beth (RJ) of Norwalk, CT, and five grandchildren:
Emily (Peter), Karl, Nora, Will, and Conor. Jean is also survived by
many nieces, nephews, and an extended family and group of friends

who have wonderful memories of their aunt, grandma, and friend,
“Jean-ie in a Bottle.”
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your
