Life Story for Richard T. Gasser Sr.

With profound sadness, the Gasser Family conveys news of the passing of Richard Taylor Gasser Sr., 70, who passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 18, 2018. He will be greatly missed. Richard split his time between Fort Salonga and Ticonderoga, N.Y., and loved both communities with all his heart. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend.
Richard was born November 23, 1947 in Brooklyn, son of the late Richard F. Gasser and Bobbie Taylor Gasser. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Deborah; his two sons, Richard Gasser Jr. (wife, Christine) and Robert Gasser; and his sister, Lynn Faingnaert of Wilmington, N.C.
Richard was an Army Sergeant who served in Viet Nam with the 331st Transportation Company and as Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-13. He was the longtime President of Gasser & Sons in Commack — the third generation leading this family-owned metal manufacturing company, which specializes in crafting X-ray housings for a global market. He served as a director for the boards of the Fort Salonga Civic Association, the Hauppauge Industrial Association and the Lake Communities of Putnam. Some of his greatest joys were boating, travel, photography and history. His favorite historical location was Fort Ticonderoga and he not only supported the restoration of the fort but also volunteered there frequently.
A funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 5:30pm Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Clayton Funeral Home in Kings Park, N.Y. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 2pm until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Richard’s memory to:
