Life Story for Mark Anthony Smith

Long time Kings Park, NY resident, Mark Smith died Friday evening October 27, 2017. He was 92 years old. Mark Anthony Smith was born July 26, 1925 in the Bronx. His parents were Joseph and Jeannette (Glover) Smith. While he was in High School, his father, brothers and he answered the country’s call and enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon discharge, he returned to the States and married Joan Collins, also of the Bronx, on June 2, 1951. Ten years later, they moved to Kings Park and raised their 4 Children: Mark, James, William and Katherine. Mark was a Wire Lather for Local 46 Wood Wire and Metal Union for 28 years. After retirement, he enjoyed part time jobs at Herman’s Sporting Goods, Kings Park Schools and Hospital and St. Joseph’s Church. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church for 55 years, a member of American Legion Post #944 and St. Joseph’s Bingo Committee. Mark is survived by his wife Joan of Kings Park, son Mark of Mount Sinai , son Bill of Estes Park, CO, daughter Kathy Kraft and husband Tom of Mastic Beach, NY, daughter in law Mary of Holbrook, NY; grandchildren Freddie (Megan) Kraft of Concord, NC, Joan Kraft of Mastic, grandson John Kraft of Mastic Beach, granddaughter Erin Kraft of Mastic Beach, grandson Kyle Smith (Brittney) of Dickinson, ND, grandson Colton Smith of Wellington, CO and granddaughter Danielle (Mike) Bothwell of Fort Collins, CO, granddaughter Angela Vaccaro. He is also survived by great granddaughters Brannigan Smith of Dickinson and Paisley Bothwell of Fort Collins and great-grandsons Anthony and Dylan Vaccaro of Holtsville. He was preceded in death by a son Jim in 1981, his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. A Mass of the Christian Burial will celebrate Mark’s life on Thursday November 2, 2017 at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Kings Park. Burial with military honors will be at Calverton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clayton Funeral Home in Kings Park Tuesday 7 to 9 PM, Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
